Originally known as Castle Gloom, Castle Campbell was the lowland home to the Campbells of Argyll.
Although their power base remained in Argyll they needed a residence within easy reach of the royal court at Stirling.
Castle Campbell remained their stronghold from the fifteenth to seventeenth centuries.
With hills to the north and stunning views to the south, the landscape today offers great walking, greats views and the opportunity of a great day out.
